The Project coincided with the school’s Challenge Week and Work Experience Placements, and provided the groups with a positive exercise in community service, team building and will provide a useful introduction into their Land-Based Studies course that will started in September.

              The road to nowhere

                 Action plan

  1. General litter pick of all areas,
  2. ½ moon footpaths
  3. Mark out/ shape new shrub bed/s
  4. Remove grass and turn over soil, rake and prepare for planting
  5. Plant shrubs (Id Shrubs; school classroom project)
  6. Label with ID sheets (school classroom project)
  7. Tree planting
  8. Build small raised planters (with school construction instructor)
  9. Rake new soil areas
  10. Plant trees / woodland
  11. Install new log benches

    Long-term plan

Cut and redesign the road to nowhere, by reducing the old roadway down to a random shape footpath, removing and filling in the unwonted sides with topsoil and then seeding the area with wildflower grass seed mix. The grass mix could be extended to the right hand side of the roadway, incorporating a new site for woodland planting.

What is National Tree Week?

First mounted in 1975, National Tree Week is UK's largest tree celebration annually launching the start of the winter tree planting season.

National Tree Week is a great chance for communities to do something positive for their local treescape.

Staff from Cowyn  Park department and the Countryside Service will be planting locally sourced native trees

 Help celebrate National Tree Week.
